Telenor Announced to Deduct 5 Percent Extra Service Charges
An important announcement for Telenor subscribers. I have just read this announcement at official website of Telenor:-
“Dear Prepaid Customer, from now onwards 5% additional service charges (on recharge face value) will be applicable on all recharges via easyload or scratch card [for all prepaid customers]”
You might be confused what this additional service charges mean. I was confused too when I read about this but when I called Telenor call center, it cleared everything to me. An operator at Telenor call center said “To provide better service, Telenor has decided to charge 5 percent extra as service charges”. This means Telenor will now be deducting 5 percent more whenever your account is recharged.
So, if you are a Telenor prepaid customer, you now need to pay 33.1% tax to government and then 5% service charges to Telenor. This means you can enjoy just 61.9 rupees from a 100 rupees card and remaining 38.1 rupees will go in taxes and service charges. If other companies don’t follow this trend, then Telenor will going to lose a number of subscribers because of this decision.

Thanks for updating.
Correction to the post is required.
You wrote in your blog “This means Telenor has increased prices of all call rates, SMS rates and packages etc by 5 percent.”
This is a 5% administration or service charge what ever u call it. But it is NOT an increase in call rates or sms charges or package charges. you statement above will mislead customers.
Becasue the 5% of recharge value is deducted at the time of the charing, it has no effect on the smgs or call rates.
And BTW, ALL operators are going to apply this charge as mobile industry has decided to do this and not just telenor.
Thanks for mentioning it momers. I will like to modify this post. Yes, we will see what happens and what other companies decides. Let’s wait and see. Thanks for informing about the doubtful statement.
Is it really happening??
because,i never see this action of 5percent extra service charge, getting executed.
